Popular around the world udon noodles are a staple of Japanese cooking along with many different kinds of other noodles (soba, ramen, and rice noodles) to choose from it can be fun just trying to find out which ones are your favorite.

Udon noodles are made from wheat flour, salt and water. They are then dried and par-boiled before packaging for sale in the store. The nutrients found in udon noodles are similar to Italian pasta and can easily be added into a healthy diet plan for the whole family.

There are two main types called “Kake” these are served hot in soup. The other type is called “Zaru” this type is served cold and eaten with dipping sauce. Also, there is a minor type of udon called “Kama-age” with these you get the best of both worlds because they are eaten hot, dipped in sauce. Take my word for it either way they are served udon is one of the really great Japanese dishes of all time. With lots of recipes online and in recipe books there is no shortage of different Udon bowls you can make.

First introduced in the 9th century by a Buddhist Priest named Kukai, udon noodles are widely enjoyed across the Japanese culture and across the world.
